Ballet, Modern, Tap, Jazz and Contemporary

Dance at Roedean Moira House offers pupils a chance to develop dance skills for enjoyment or for a career in dance or the Performing Arts.  The development of Ballet, Modern, Tap, Jazz and Contemporary has helped to broaden the students' skills and encourages them to explore different styles.  We offer a range of dance sessions, from once a week for enjoyment, to several hours per week for those who want to pursue it more seriously or even consider dance as a possible profession.

Pupils have the opportunity to take the ISTD and Trinity Musical Theatre Exams and have numerous opportunities to perform throughout each term with a showcase for both Musical Theatre and Dance at the end of the Spring Term.  The students also have the opportunity to study Dance at GCSE Level.

The department consists of four experienced dance teachers, encompassing expertise and experience across the West End, world-wide tours and extensive teaching experience which allow Dance to be represented in all areas of school life.

Dance Trips

Several dance trips and dance workshops are organised and attended throughout the year to help those already studying this discipline to further embed their knowledge and performance as well as to encourage appreciation and stimulate interest in those who have not studied dance before.

Extra-curricular Dance

There are group Dance classes that occur at the end of the day as part of the school Junior and Senior co-curricular programme.  These sessions comprise a mix of the dance styles and cater for all abilities.  This gives the pupils an opportunity to experience dance even if they have not done so before.  This enable those girls with the potential to work towards an exam in the future, who are unable to currently take up the private paid lessons.

Private Dance and Musical Theatre Lessons

The department offers private and group dance lessons in several different styles of dance, at varying levels of ability, as part of the ISTD Graded and Vocational Graded examinations.

The paid Musical Theatre lessons are on a group basis with the girls preparing and taking the Trinity Musical Theatre Exams at the end of the year.

What They Say…

It is extraordinary to watch a child perform a vigorous tap dance, pause to sing (with no apparent shortage of breath), then keep dancing.  Pupils from pre grade 1 through to grade 8 receive excellent results in their Trinity theatre exams, and there's an additional course available in musical theatre.
